Reading a wide range of commentaries and conversations with several of our subscribers re Sarah Palin has led me to believe that her principal impact on the election will be threefold:
1) She will mobilize previously indifferent GOP ground troops in key states, which may impact key Congressional races and possibly a close Presidential race;
2) Her appeal will be narrow and limited---and even negative among many independent-minded voters---if the Democrats can communicate her extreme views and stay away from personality;
3) Her undeniable appeal to the ultra conservatives in her party and some independents may be more than offset by her mobilizing impact on Democrats who are angry about McCain's "Hail Sarah" pass and Palin's fiery, largely untruthful critiques of Obama.
Two of the most thoughtful columns I have read were written by James Fallows of Atlantic Monthly and Gloria Steinem in the Los Angeles Times. Do yourself a favor and invest 10 minutes in reading them.

So far, the polling that I have seen that includes Palin on the GOP ticket is a wash. The ticket picked up 5 points with Republican women but lost that much with independents of both genders.
