Jerome Corsi, the same guy who wrote the anti-Kerry diatribe that fueled the Swift Boaters in 2004, has just published the anti-Obama book that starts at the top of the New York Times nonfiction best sellers:
"Today's New York Times has a run-down on the book, and the paper reports that Corsi is planning to work with some conservative groups to run Swift-Boat style ads against Obama, and the wingnut noise machine is already going full throttle, with talk-show hosts promoting the heck out of it. The chief editor of the publishing house behind the book is GOP operative Mary Matalin."
Insiders understand that wealthy right-wingers buy up lots of copies of these books in advance to put them high on the charts. Nevertheless, the book provides immediate fodder for radio and cable right wingers, and for ads during and after the Democrat Convention.
In the meantime, my unfavorite fellow Texan and lead Swift-Boater, Bob Perry, has just agreed to put a few million bucks into slandering Mark Udall in the Colorado Senate race for the seat vacated by the always-vacant incumbent, Wayne Allard. Udall is up by six points and has maintained his lead over knee-jerk right winger, Bob Schaffer, who has ethical issues as well. But you can expect to hear "Boulder Liberal" and worse ringing through the Rockies come fall. This barrage doubtless has a secondary aim of strengthening McCain in a truly pivotal state.
