A post on Daily Kos today makes a compelling case that the fact-challenged McCain ad blitz is aimed at one objective:
"John McCain's entire series of negative, sophmoric, attack ads are part of a coordinated strategy to firm up the Republican base of support by turning them against Barack Obama. And it's working."
The Rovians who took over the campaign recently devised this strategy. They remember clearly how the anti-Kerry blitz---going after his positives to turn them into negatives---succeeded because the Kerry campaign was slow to respond.
There is much talk about the need for Obama to choose a softer, gentler candidate for Vice President, someone who will sooth older Americans and other undecided Democrats. I say No!
Joe Biden has the best credentials for the Oval Office of any of the veep finalists, and would take on these charges in a fierce and persuasive way. The country needs a debate about what matters, and blowing away the Rove strategy is a vital first step.
