A Bad Day for Conservatives

Rachel Slajda of Talking Points Memo summarizes the gleeful response among the usual suspects in right-wing media over Chicago not getting the 2016 Olympics despite President Obama's push.

So, let me get this straight. A major American city loses out on an opportunity to land an event that will mean millions of dollars and thousands of jobs in the worst economic time since the Depression and the wing-nuts are falling all over themselves with joy? Pathetic.

It is also a very telling snapshot of what matters to this faction: petty partisanship over the good of the people. At least a former Bush staffer and a former Romney spokesman were smart enough to get how embarassing this is.

Andrew Sullivan agrees on The Daily Dish.

Criticizing a president is one thing - and important. Hoping he fails - even to the point of celebrating a national loss - is a sign of partisanship that has become pathologically blind to any sense of perspective or patriotism.

UPDATE: Joe Scarborough chimes in on MSNBC:

Repbulicans have gone off the deep end.
