GOP VP: The Long View

John McCain faced a real conundrum in choosing his VP: the Republican Party is unwilling to support a national candidate who is not staunchly pro-life. (Cynics say pro-birth, but that's an argument for another day.)

One example will suffice: Jodi Rell, the Governor of Connecticut, came in to clean up the mess after a Democratic governor went to jail, was elected in her own right and is among the most popular, respected governors in the nation. She could not be considered because she is pro-choice.

For the good of the nation, both parties need to be reality-based and pragmatic while maintaining certain core principles. If the Republicans lose badly on November 4, one wonders if new leaders will emerge who operate from that base....and hopefully nominate some new Republicans I will be willing to vote for.
