The Best Argument for Biden

Jonathan Alter and other pundits have cited Joe Biden's fabled "big mouth" as an actual asset for Barack Obama, and Ezra Klein cites a particularly most compelling reason:

"In the 2008 election, he was the only Democrat who really figured out how to talk about Republicans and foreign policy. All the other candidates on the stage started from the presumption that Republicans were strong on national security, and voters needed to be convinced of their failures and then led to a place of support for a Democratic alternative. Biden dispensed with all that. He started from the position that Republicans had been catastrophic failures on foreign policy, and their ongoing claims to competence and leadership should be laughed at, and even mocked."

Most readers of The Sensible Center who have weighed in on the VP question have been pro-Biden-- and this scribe made the case for him even before the Russia-Georgia engagement.
Taking account of the "be careful what you wish for" factir, Biden does appear likely to be beside Obama in Springfield, Illinois tomorrow. The always prescient www.fivethirtyeight.com
cautioned that Biden does not offer a big boost among the electorate-at-large, then came back with the note that he does help Obama with some voters he needs: seniors (if he's in, expect a big Obama push in Florida to the very end), working class whites and in Pennsylvania.

Note: We Texans are glad to hear from the AP that Congressman Chet Edwards, a truly distinguished member and leading voice for veterans, made it to the finals with some encouragement by Nancy Pelosi.
