McCain Spanish Ad Whiffs

Non-partisan web-site FactCheck.org nails the McCain campaign for multiple factual errors in a Spanish radio ad aired in Florida.

McCain's new radio ad, in Spanish, aims to show Florida would benefit from the Colombia Free Trade Agreement, which he supports. But every number in the ad is wrong, except one, a prediction of job gains taken from a group favoring the trade deal. And even that number is rounded upward so generously as to flunk third-grade arithmetic.

According to FactCheck, McCain falsely claims that "three quarters of Florida's exports are with Latin America" and that Florida exports to Latin America total $45 million. He says Columbia is Florida's third most active export market while Commerce Department statistics show it is the fifth most active. Lastly, he overstates the impact the Columbia Free Trade agreement will have on jobs in Florida.

Our running tally of false statements in the 2008 Presidential campaign (according to FactCheck) now stands at 8 for McCain and 4 for Obama.
